Super Audio Cart faithfully reproduces the sound of eight classic video game systems whose cultural legacy and influence has lasted far beyond their commercial lifespans. When the library was conceived, our goal was superb authenticity by deep-sampling every sound chip. But over time, we expanded our vision to shatter the limitations of the original systems and allow for near-infinite sound design possibilities.
The final version of Super Audio Cart is the culmination of 2+ years of intense research, development, and sound design. With a massive 5,500+ samples meticulously recorded, edited, and looped, we’ve thoroughly captured the raw capabilities of each game system. These sounds are loaded into a custom Kontakt Player engine packed with cutting-edge features, along with 1,200+ factory snapshots to inspire both retro music, chiptunes, and modern genres.
To create this instrument, everyone involved needed a passion and deep connection to both video games and their music. That’s why we collaborated with OverClocked ReMix, a website and community dedicated to the appreciation of game music. To us, Super Audio Cart represents the ultimate tribute to that art form, and we know that it will find a place in your music for many years to come!
v1.2 Update
Version 1.2 of Super Audio Cart added some key new features to the arpeggiator & sequencer such as the ability to 'hold' arp steps, modulate cutoff / pan with each step, or use arp step data to modulate any other parameter. As of 1.2, we have begun bundling a brand-new VST/AU FX plugin - SNESVerb - for free with all copies of Super Audio Cart!
v1.1 Expansion
Our first expansion for Super Audio Cart was released July 20th, 2016 as a FREE update for all existing customers, and is now included with all copies of the instrument going forward. For this expansion, we wanted not just to fix bugs and make engine improvements, but add an entire new system, more sounds, and new features for both beginner & experienced users.
For the 8th system, we selected the FC, the Japanese version of the NES. The FC was capable of many more tones and timbres than the NES thanks to the VRC6 and VRC7 sound chips in certain game cartridges, as well as the FDS hardware expansion. This adds over 30 new multisampled waveforms to the library. We used these sounds (plus other new features) to create over 140 new snapshots for the library, bringing the new total to over 1,200 factory presets!
Other new features added in this expansion include a Note Length knob and Velocity Range trigger settings for each layer, FX rack presets and snapshot locking, a new ADSR envelope modulator, the ability to modulate pitch and filter ADSR envelopes and depth, and a new keyswitch modulator, among other things.
File ships in 8 split .rar archives. Ensure you have software to extract the files.
